CIVIL GOVERNMENT LIFE TRUTH # 1 – YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER gODS BEFORE ME
Question: What does it mean to have no other gods before Him?
Answer: We must love God first; with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our strength.
Exodus 20:1-3 (NIV) 1 And God spoke all these words: 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 "You shall have no other gods before me.
CIVIL GOVERNMENT LIFE TRUTH # 2 – YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT IDOLATRY
Question: What does it mean to commit idolatry?
Answer: Idolatry is when our devotion or allegiance goes towards anything other than God.
Exodus 20:4-6 (NIV) 4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.
CIVIL GOVERNMENT LIFE TRUTH # 3 – YOU SHALL NOT MISUSE THE NAME OF THE LORD
Question: What does it mean to misuse God’s name?
Answer: We can misuse God’s name in our speech, in our actions, and when we forget about its power.
Exodus 20:7 (NIV) 7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
CIVIL GOVERNMENT LIFE TRUTH # 4 – REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY BY KEEPING IT HOLY
Question: What does it mean to keep the Sabbath holy?
Answer: We are to keep the day holy by not doing any work or causing others to work.
Exodus 20:8-11 (NIV) 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Question: What does it mean to honor your father and mother?
Answer: Children are to learn how to respect God and others so that we can live long in the land.
Exodus 20:12 (NIV) 12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

Question: What does it mean to murder?
Answer: Murder is the unauthorized and intentional killing of a human life.
Exodus 20:13 (NIV) 13 "You shall not murder.

Question: What does it mean to commit adultery?
Answer: Adultery is the crime of unfaithfulness to your spouse.
Exodus 20:14 (NIV) 14 "You shall not commit adultery.

Question: What does it mean to steal?
Answer: Stealing is a violation of a person’s God given right to rule their own property.

Question: What does it mean to lie?
Answer: Lying is an intentional deception away from the truth.

Question: What does it mean to covet?
Answer: Coveting is setting our hearts on earthly things instead of on heavenly things.
Exodus 20:17 (NIV) 17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
